Red Dead 2’s infinite money exploit allows you to quickly and easily make at least $15,000 – a fortune in 1899 – but using an item duplication glitch to spam gold bars into your inventory.
This exploit can currently be repeated to earn an unlimited amount of money. Thanks to u/sm1ttysm1t and u/MagnusTS who seem to have initially discovered this exploit.
How to Duplicate Gold Bars[edit]
This duplication glitch seems to only work with the lock box in Limpany, as it apparently requires that there be multiple items in the lock box.
You can only duplicate the gold bar at Braithwaite Manor (after chapter 4) once using the method below.
1. Travel to Limpany[edit]
Make your way into the burned-down town of Limpany to the south of Valentine along the Dakota River.
Enter the Sherriff’s office and pull the lock box out from under the desk near the front window.
2. Start to Pick Up the Gold Bar[edit]
After you open the lock box, do not pick up the Horse Stamina Recipe Pamphlet or the exploit will not work.
Instead, use the interaction button to collect the gold bar, then pause the game in the middle of the pickup animation.
3. Save & Load[edit]
When you pause the game, go to the Story screen and save your progress, then immediately load that save.
4. Profit[edit]
Return to the lock box in Limpany and continute to hold the interaction button down when collecting the gold bar. You will keep picking them up until you cannot carry any more (your max for this item is 30).
Travel to the nearest Fence (if in Limpany this will be at Emerald Ranch). Once you’ve sold all of your gold bars, you can return to the lock box and repeat steps 2 – 4.
