Ys VIII: Lacrimosa Of Dana For PC Pushed Back To An "As-of-yet Indeterminate Date"

[ad_1]

Ys VIII’s PC port is proving to be continuously problematic, so NIS America has made the decision to delay the game further in order to take the time needed to improve its performance.

On the game’s Steam pre-order page, NIS has offered a thorough explanation of why it has chosen to delay the game writing, “This decision was not made lightly, and we understand that many of you will be upset about this news. For that, and most importantly, for the delay, we are very sorry.” The game is having memory leak issues and framerate problems in its transition from PlayStation 4 to PC and NIS is going to bring the game to a new team writing, “We will be moving development to an entirely different developer who will primarily focus on frame rate improvements as well as other PC optimizations. Once that process begins, we will monitor the progress and determine the release schedule. We will also be sure to give regular updates to our progress.” NIS is also offering refunds on pre-orders for those disappointed by the delay.

NIS is quick to point out that this delay will not affect the planned localization patch which is coming to Vita and PlayStation 4 on January 30. It’s unclear if this delay will affect the Switch version of the game, which is planned for a vague 2018 release date. For our review of the PlayStation 4 version of the game, head here.

Our Take
This is a bummer for those looking forward to the game on PC, but I appreciate NIS America’s transparency in saying the game is not working as well as it wants, it’s bringing on a whole new team to get it fixed, and it will happily refund your pre-order. It certainly lessens the sting.
