Porsche Freshens 911 GTS for 2017

With a twin-turbo engine already powering the 2017 Porsche 911 and 911 S models, it comes as no surprise a similar change would come to the refreshed 2017 Porsche 911 GTS models.

Like the standard 911 Carrera and 911 Carrera S models, the GTS models’ naturally aspirated 3.8-liter flat-six engine has been replaced by a new twin-turbo 3.0-liter F-6 engine making 450 hp and 405 lb-ft of torque from 2,150-5,500 rpm.

That’s 20 hp and 80 lb-ft more than the outgoing 3.8-liter engine in the GTS and 30 hp and 37 lb-ft more than in the current 911 S and 80 hp and 80 lb-ft more than in the current base 911. The extra power is made possible by larger turbos than those used on the 911 S models. The Sport Exhaust system with gloss black tips is standard on the GTS models. A seven-speed manual is standard and the seven-speed PDK dual-clutch is optional.

The GTS treatment is available on the rear-drive 911 Carrera GTS Coupe ($120,050) and 911 Carrera GTS Cabriolet ($132,350), and the all-wheel-drive 911 Carrera 4 GTS Coupe ($126,950), 911 Carrera 4 GTS Cabriolet ($139,250), and 911 Targa 4 GTS ($139,250).

Porsche claims the 911 4 GTS Coupe with the PDK can accelerate to 60 mph in just 3.4 seconds – 0.2 second quicker than the Carrera 4 S. All 911 GTS Coupe models are said to reach 60 mph in 0.2 seconds quicker than comparable Carrera S models, while GTS Cabriolet and GTS Targa models are said to be 0.3 seconds quicker than the comparable Carrera S/4S Cabriolet or Targa 4S models. Top speed for the GTS models is also said to be up to 3 mph faster than the comparable S models with the rear-drive 911 GTS Coupe with manual transmission able to reach 193 mph.

The Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) is standard on all GTS models, while the GTS Coupes step up to the PASM Sport Suspension for a 0.39-inch lower ride height. All GTS models also come with the new Porsche Track Precision App as part of the standard Sport Chrono Package. The new app features automatic recording with a detailed display and analysis of driving data for smartphones.

In addition to the engine and suspension upgrades, the Porsche 911 GTS models gain the new Sport Design front end with black painted spoiler lip and taller rear spoiler for reduced lift on both axles compared to the Carrera S models. Other black exterior bits include tinted taillights, satin black rear grille strips, and the aforementioned gloss black exhaust tips. Rear-drive models feature a new black trim strip between the taillights, while all-wheel-drive models get a light strip between the taillights.

Other Sport Design features include satin black side mirrors and 20-inch center lock alloy wheels, and black GTS door emblems. The 911 Targa 4 GTS gets a satin black Targa bar to differentiate it from non-GTS Targa models.

Unique interior features include standard Sports Seats Plus finished in leather and Alcantara, unique stitch pattern, and GTS headrest logos. The standard GT Sport steering wheel, gear lever, and armrest also feature Alcantara trim. Other interior trim includes black anodized brushed aluminum.

Order books for the 2017 Porsche 911 GTS models are open now with deliveries set for April.
