How to Unlock Every Mantle and Booster in Monster Hunter World

This page contains the unlock requirements and item stats for all of the Specialized Tools in Monster Hunter World.

New to Monster Hunter: World, Mantles and Boosters are equippable buff items that your hunter will wear (in the case of mantles) or stick in the ground for an area of effect buff (in the case of boosters), for a short period of time. The effects and duration of each vary, and should be used based on a situational basis. This page outlines the various uses of each item and how to get them.

At first, you will only be able to bring one mantle or booster with you at a time. After you’ve beaten the story and see credits, you’ll be able to bring two at a time.

Mantles are wearable cloaks that apply different effects. They last for a limited amount of time, then must be removed for them to recharge. They’re great when fighting certain monsters, and offer fantastic utility.

Beat Optional Quest: The Red and Blue Crew (7*) Makes monsters aggro you 180 Seconds 300 Seconds
The Challenger Mantle is great for specific situations. If there’s a specific area of the map that has an environmental trap or easier way to mount, this item will prompt monsters to target you more often and makes them easier to lure into those areas. However like the Ghillie Mantle, it will expire if you are attacked. You’ll unlock the Challenger Mantle by completing the Optional Quest, The Red and Blue Crew which has you hunting both a Rathalos and an Azure Rathalos.

Complete the quest A Fiery Convergence (7*) Improves fire element resistance and makes you immune to fireblight and blastblight.  180 seconds  210 seconds
The elemental Mantles are most useful in specific fights with the monsters that use the element. In the case of the Fireproof Mantle that reduces fire damage and nullifies fireblight and blastblight, it may be the most useful to you out of all the elemental Mantles. You’ll want to be taking this one on quests with any monster that does fire or blast damage from Anjanath to Uragaan. Maybe most importantly, remember to take this mantle whenever you fight a Teostra. It may be the difference between living and being one hit KO’d. You can unlock this mantle by completing the Optional Quest, A Fiery Convergence which has you hunting both a Lavasioth and an Uragaan.

Awarded after the Main Story Quest Flying Sparks: Tobi Karachi Makes you invisible to monsters 120 Seconds 300 Seconds
The Ghillie Mantle is one hunters will encounter fairly early in the game, and can be a great boost to new players. Awarded after completing the Main Story Quest Flying Sparks: Tobi Karachi, the Ghillie Mantle will conceal you from enemy view temporarily. However, the effect expires if you perform an attack or take damage. This is a great way to get a quick heal in the middle of combat, or to sneak up on a monster that is highly aggressive.

The Glider Mantle is the second mantle most hunters will get. A positioning mantle that’s especially useful in the Coral Highlands for its strong updrafts, the Glider Mantle increases jump airtime and grants the power to ride strong winds. This mantle makes it easier to mount monsters as well. You’ll receive it after your first Expedition into the Coral Highlands within the Main Story.

The Immunity Mantle removes & Nullifies abnormal status effects for the duration of its effects. A great one to have against Rathian‘s poison or Vaal Hazak‘s Effluvium. Another all around good mantle, stunning monsters with the Impact Mantle in combination with other stun items and weapons can be a potent offense. Beat Optional Quest: A Summons from Below (9*) Eliminates damages reactions, prevents wind effects, protects your hearing, and grants tremor resistance. 90 Seconds 360 Seconds
The Rocksteady Mantle is fantastic, but you’ll have to do a lot of work to get there. Firstly, what does it do? A heck of a lot! Once equipped, for 90 seconds you won’t be affected by damage stuns, wind effects, tremors, or monster roars, and you’ll also take less damage from attacks! Sounds stellar right? Well, here’s the catch. To get the quest that grants it, you’ll have to take out three different tempered Elder Dragons. These investigations are HR locked at 50, so don’t expect to get this one before the endgame. After tracking down and taking out these challenging forces of nature, you’ll be presented with the simple task of slaying a tempered Vaal Hazak and a tempered Odogaron in the Optional Quest, A Summons from Below. Once you’ve done all this, you get the mantle. Happy Hunting!

Boosters are tools you can stick to the ground when out on a quest. For their duration, they will expel a mist that applies an effect to hunters that stand in it. Often, they will apply an effect usually accomplished by using a consumable, but some apply effects otherwise unobtainable, like the Affinity Booster.
